What to Check First for Different Camera Types

Wi-Fi security cameras

For Wi-Fi cameras, weak network performance usually does not stop IR LEDs directly, but it can delay firmware syncing, app control, and scheduled night mode settings.

Make sure the camera has stable power and a strong wireless signal.

PoE cameras

With Power over Ethernet cameras, the switch, injector, and cable quality matter.

Long cable runs, damaged connectors, and noncompliant PoE equipment can reduce the power available for infrared illumination.

Analog CCTV cameras

Older analog cameras often depend heavily on the camera’s built-in IR board and power adapter quality.

If multiple cameras on the same supply fail at night, the power source is a likely cause.

Signs Your Night Vision Is Failing Before It Goes Completely Dark

Night vision usually degrades before it stops entirely.
