Fujifilm Autofocus Not Working: Causes, Fixes, and Settings to Check

If your Fujifilm autofocus is not working, the cause is often simpler than a broken camera: a wrong focus mode, a lens contact issue, or a setting that disables AF.

What Fujifilm autofocus needs to work properly

Fujifilm X Series and GFX cameras rely on a combination of camera settings, lens communication, and subject conditions to achieve autofocus.

When any part of that chain breaks, the camera may hunt, refuse to focus, or appear completely unresponsive.

The main autofocus system depends on:

  • The correct focus mode selected on the camera body
  • A lens with clean electronic contacts and compatible firmware
  • Sufficient subject contrast and lighting
  • A shutter release setting that allows focusing
  • No conflicting custom settings or manual focus overrides

Check the focus mode first

The most common reason Fujifilm autofocus is not working is a mismatch between the focus mode and your shooting situation.

On many Fujifilm cameras, switching to the wrong mode can make AF seem broken even when the hardware is fine.

Set AF-S, AF-C, or M correctly
