Sony Camera Statistics 2026: Market Share, Shipments, Product Lineup, and Sony Alpha Data

These Sony camera statistics show Sony’s position in mirrorless cameras, the recent growth of the broader camera market, and the size of Sony’s current camera and lens lineup. Sony’s latest investor materials discuss cameras inside its Entertainment, Technology & Services segment rather than as a standalone camera segment, so the clearest benchmarks come from Sony’s own catalog pages, Sony’s investor commentary, CIPA shipment data, and recent BCN market-share coverage.

  • Sony said demand in the global interchangeable-lens camera market remained strong year over year in Q3 FY2025, mainly in Asia, and the Alpha 7 V was selling well.

Worldwide digital camera shipments

The broader camera market has been recovering, which matters for Sony because it remains heavily exposed to interchangeable-lens and premium imaging categories. CIPA’s annual totals show global digital camera shipments climbing in both 2024 and 2025 after a softer 2023.

Worldwide mirrorless camera shipments

Mirrorless cameras are the clearest part of the market for Sony to watch. CIPA’s totals show mirrorless shipments rising from 4.83 million in 2023 to 5.61 million in 2024 and then 6.31 million in 2025, which helps explain why Sony keeps emphasizing interchangeable-lens demand in its earnings materials.

Sony mirrorless market share in Japan

BCN’s retail rankings are Japan-only, not worldwide market share, but they are still one of the most cited public benchmarks for brand performance in mirrorless cameras. Sony led the category in both the 2025 BCN Awards for 2024 sales and the 2026 BCN Awards for 2025 sales, though its share narrowed in the latest ranking.

Sony segment signals tied to cameras

Because Sony does not report a separate camera-only revenue line in its latest consolidated materials, the most useful company-level read comes from ET&S commentary. Sony reported ET&S sales of 2,409.3 billion yen and operating income of 190.9 billion yen in FY2024, forecast FY2025 ET&S sales of 2,280 billion yen and operating income of 180 billion yen, said that improved digital camera product mix should help FY2025 profitability, said the interchangeable-lens camera market grew about 9% year over year in Q4 FY2024, and said global interchangeable-lens demand in Q3 FY2025 stayed strong year over year, mainly in Asia.

What these Sony camera statistics show

Sony remains one of the strongest brands in mirrorless cameras, especially when you combine its brand position in Japan, its deep full-frame catalog, and the size of its E-mount lens ecosystem. The broader camera market has also been moving in a favorable direction, with both total digital camera shipments and mirrorless shipments rising over the last two years.

At the same time, Sony’s most recent public signals suggest a more competitive mirrorless market than a year earlier. Sony still led the latest BCN ranking, but its share narrowed, which makes product execution, regional demand, and lens-system strength especially important going into the rest of 2026.
