LUMIX remains one of the most influential brands in the mirrorless camera market. Panasonic can point to early category leadership, a broadening full-frame lens lineup, improving European share in full-frame cameras, and a product range that now spans creator-focused full-frame bodies, hybrid video flagships, and Micro Four Thirds workhorses.

LUMIX celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2021, and Panasonic said cumulative LUMIX sales had exceeded 80 million units by that point.

The LUMIX S9 weighs about 403g body-only, or about 486g with battery and SD card, making it Panasonic’s smallest and lightest LUMIX S full-frame model at launch.
The LUMIX GH7 uses a 25.2MP BSI CMOS sensor, supports internal 5.7K 30p ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes RAW HQ, and introduced world-first 32-bit float recording for an interchangeable-lens digital camera when paired with Panasonic’s XLR adapter.
The LUMIX G9II brought Phase Detection AF to the LUMIX G series for the first time, along with a 25.2MP sensor and 60 fps AFC burst shooting.

Mirrorless share of interchangeable-lens camera shipments
The main takeaway is that Panasonic Lumix is still a relatively small player versus the biggest camera brands, but it is clearly strengthening its position in the parts of the market that matter most for hybrid creators. The brand’s improvement in Europe’s full-frame segment, along with a growing native S lens lineup, suggests Panasonic has been gaining traction where video features, color tools, and creator workflows matter more than sheer volume.
At the same time, the broader camera market is becoming even more mirrorless-heavy. That trend fits Panasonic’s strengths. LUMIX has a long history in mirrorless cameras, and its current lineup now covers high-resolution full-frame, speed-oriented full-frame, creator-first compact full-frame, and advanced Micro Four Thirds video bodies. In other words, the brand is not trying to win every camera category. It is leaning harder into hybrid creators, filmmakers, and enthusiasts who value mobility and workflow features.
